University of Edinburgh’s 9,500sq m Bayes Centre is home to more than 600 expert thinkers working on the application of data science and artificial intelligence (AI)
Situated in the University’s Potterrow Campus, Bennetts Associates’ Edinburgh studio was tasked to design a world-class research centre, including a five-storey atrium with break out areas, open plan working spaces and ground floor café facilities to promote interaction between teams of varying disciplines and visiting groups.
Connectivity with daylight and emphasis in promoting inter-group connectivity within the building led to the development of an outline specification for full height internal glass screens which required a design-build solution. Indeglås worked closely with Bennetts Associates to develop detailed specifications which met the full requirements of the brief and building control including fire-rated, acoustic, barrier and bespoke height screen all from the DEKO range of products.
Appointed by contractor McLaughlin and Harvey to carry out the design and installation of the glass screens and internal doors Indeglas adopted the use of robotic lift technology and developed bespoke interface details to create an interior worthy of the FIS Gold Award for 2019.
